On this level of the certificate course, you can further deepen your data handling skills according to your interests. You will acquire knowledge and skills within the framework of selectable modules:

  • technical, mathematical and computer science fundamentals (“understanding”),
  • the application of data-related methods and the use of corresponding digital technologies (“Apply”),
  • legal, ethical and social aspects of handling data and the digitalization of society (“Reflect”).

To successfully complete the certificate level, students must successfully complete courses worth at least 15 CP from the catalog of creditable courses. At least 3 CP must be acquired in each of the three main topics “Understanding”, “Applying” and “Reflecting”. The rest can be freely distributed. Please note that some courses may be assigned to more than one of the subject areas. For these modules, you can decide when applying for the certificate for which of the thematic blocks it should be credited.

  • How do I register for the certificate level?

No formal registration is required. After successfully completing the necessary courses, you can apply for the certificate to be issued. Simply contact: dataliteracy@uni-jena.de.

Please note that formal registration is required for each individual module. When registering for modules outside your degree program, separate rules may apply (see notes above on this page).

  • How long do I have to complete the certificate level?

You can complete the certificate level throughout your studies. The certificate can only be applied for after completing all necessary courses. The time frame for completing the individual modules is governed by the relevant study regulations or the module itself (usually 1 or max. 2 semesters, depending on the module).

  • Can I get credit for courses from my major?

If modules from your own degree program are listed in the catalog of eligible courses, you can use up to 5 CP for the certificate. However, this only applies to courses that are not compulsory courses in your own degree program.

  • Where can I find an overview of the courses that can be credited?

All courses that can be credited for the certificate level can be found in our catalog of creditable courses on this website.

In this catalog, you will find all modules that can be credited toward the second level of the DALIJE certificate. The modules are categorized according to the potential participant group:

Interdisciplinary courses - (open to students from several/all departments)
Subject-specific courses - (only accessible to students from certain departments)

Detailed information on the requirements for participating in the modules and earning credit points can be found in the course descriptions. Registration via Friedolin is usually required to participate in the courses (please note the information for each individual course).

Important: Before enrolling in modules outside your own degree program, please check with your relevant examination office for organizational details and any prerequisites that may apply.
